Cynthia “Marris” Juárez, b. 1989, Chicago, IL, USA

Cynthia “Marris” Juárez is a Mexican-American P-R-I-N-T-E-R and artist from Pilsen, Chicago. The daughter of natives from Michoacán, México, Juárez is attracted to technical exploration within printmaking, particularly in lithography and serigraphy. She partakes in drawing activities with the intention to pull prints based on her drawings. Conceptually, Juárez creates work that is connected through multiplicity, process, and its ability to ground the artist as she explores communication and documentation in culture, as well as a variety of histories and how they impact our rootedness wherever we are present. In 2025, Juárez was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), which she believes is unintentionally present in her work, the way she works, and her appreciation for visual soundness.

Juárez is an alumna of the Printer Training Program at Tamarind Institute, where she also worked as a volunteer and work study for two academic years as an undergraduate student. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Studio from The University of New Mexico and an Associate in Fine Arts in Art Studio from Harold Washington College, City Colleges of Chicago. In 2025, Juárez earned a second associate degree in Law and Paralegal Studies from Wilbur Wright College, City Colleges of Chicago. Currently, she works as a Teacher Assistant in the printmaking area at Harold Washington College, City Colleges of Chicago.
